Weddings & Honeymoons in The Bahamas

  • What better place could you find for a wedding or a honeymoon (or both) than the crystal clear waters and clean, sandy beaches of the Bahamas? Your friends and family will love the vacation, and you and your significant other will enjoy the romantic setting, no matter which Island you choose.

It’s fairly easy to get married in the Bahamas. Bride and groom need to have both been in the islands for at least 24 hours when you apply for a marriage license, and the license is valid for 90 days. They will issue you a marriage license while you wait, and you can marry that same day. Stop in at Nassau’s Registrar General office, or at a Commissioners’ office if you will be getting married on one of the Out Islands. You won’t have to have a blood test, but you’ll need a valid passport, a photo ID and a birth certificate, and proof of the day you arrived, like your plane ticket stub, or the stamp on your passport. You’ll also need a notarized statement that declares you are single.

As far as honeymoons go, whether you marry in the Bahamas or not, this are is one of the favorite places for newlyweds to honeymoon. There are so many spots in the Bahamas where you might want to stay, so to narrow down your choices, decide whether you are most interested in weather, privacy, cost or being able to sight-see. The best weather and top sightseeing opportunities will also mean higher room rates and more tourists around. But if you just want a quiet, romantic retreat, you can wander to the Out Islands, which are generally less traveled.

A guide can show you the weather in the Bahamas from month to month, so you can select the dates when you will honeymoon there. Check the weather before you leave for the Bahamas, to make sure you pack appropriate clothing, or just purchase island wear when you get there.
