Long Island
-
No, we don’t mean Long Island, New York. In fact, this is about as far from the fast pace of New York as you can get. There is still a lot do do here, but more space and time for relaxation. As you head in on the main road, you’ll see Barbie’s Boutiques, where they sell watches, clothing and bags. You can hook up with an experienced tour guide at the local resorts, like the Cape Santa Maria Resort, which is right on the beachfront. It almost feels like you’re stepping back in time when you visit Long Island, Bahamas. Decorative shell and crab art is sold out of an old souvenir store, where you can also see a 3-foot high table lamp with shells, and a nine-foot long bar that’s easily three or four feet high.
Nearby is a shop where a local lady can make almost anything you can imagine. If you can show her a photograph of something, she can probably make it. Her shop is on Queen’s Highway, which sounds extravagant, but which is actually just a two-lane road.
If you’ve heard of Long Island, Bahamas before, it may be due to Dean’s Blue Hole, which is said to be the deepest blue hole, and which divers love to explore.
You can also dive with sharks, if you are of a mind to. Some of the tour guides for shark swimming really don’t understand why travelers like it, because if it weren’t for the tourists, most of the guides say that they wouldn’t swim with sharks. It’s a tourist thing. You may not be looking for this much adventure, but you can also find a relaxing getaway on Long Island, Bahamas.
